#CALLAGHAN
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn tweeted a video accusing the SNP of ushering in Tory rule as he revisited the collapse of Jim Callaghan’s Labour Government 40 years ago.
@Tommysheppard posted: “Gutter politics from @jeremycorbyn and @scottishlabour. They must be desperate to distort what @thesnp did 40 years ago. Voting to have a general election does not mean supporting the Tories. For the record, I voted Labour in 1979.”
@Andrew_graeme joked: “It’s a well known fact that with an extra few months the Callaghan government would have thrown off the shackles of the crisis it was in and entered a new golden age of UK governance. Next stop socialism!”
@Dazfurey advised: “I think Labour should befriend the SNP rather than chastising them for how they voted 40 odd years ago. Labour got into bed with the Tories for Indy ref in 2014, where promises have been broken (as expected with Tories). A coalition with SNP might be the only way to form a govt.”
@Dougchapmansnp added: “The way I remember, it was bags of uncollected rubbish on the streets, the dead couldn’t get buried, the lights were going out. The country was in chaos under a Labour Government. The response from the Labour PM ‘Crisis what Crisis’. Not fit for office then. Not fit today.”
#ALEXMCLEISH
Chaos reigned in Scottish football yesterday amid conflicting reports on the future of Scotland national team manager Alex Mcleish. A Scotsman poll showed only 7 per cent of our readers unequivocally back the boss.
@Bbcchrismclaug reported: “SFA say no board meeting planned for today to discuss future of Scotland boss Alex Mcleish. Things could change, though, as his position looks increasingly uncertain.”
@Frankgallaghe18 posted: “We need a root and branch clearout here,anything other than that is only a smokescreen trying to hide the gross incompetence that has presided over our game for the last two decades.”
@Steffmcd80 agreed:
“The top brass at the SFA should all walk as well, they are clueless and couldn’t run a bath, never mind an organisation.”
@Barryanderson_ surmised: “SFA merely papering over cracks if they sack Alex Mcleish.”
