Not so Nimby

-

I wish to respond to Alastair Guild regarding the new Cala development at Aberdour (Letters, 2 April).

I take exception to being described as a “protester”. Our community is not opposed to all development. However, we are completely

opposed to development that does not meet the needs of our community. Eightyplus Cala style homes (with corresponding price tag) will do little to assist our village, or our wider community. I find it ironic that Mr Guild writes of Cala providing “reasonably priced” homes from his address in Landsdowne Crescent, Edinburgh, where, according to Zoopla, the average property price is £583,713. I must observe that, to the

overwhelming majority of Fifers, a townhouse on his street (average price £1,184,838) or a Cala house (likely to sell for £500K+) is miles out of reach.

The road conditions are dire, and the proposals give rise to serious safety issues for pedestrians and road users. Has Mr Guild visited the site or driven along our Main Street? If he has, I’d be surprised if he failed to see the concerns we have and why we have been so passionate in our resistance to

this development. We aren’t NIMBYS. We are championing the rights of our community, the application of common sense to a dysfunctional planning system and seeking to safeguard our community for future generations.

I extend a warm invitation to Mr Guild to pop in for tea when next he passes by on his way to/ from his exclusive property in Edinburgh. He would be most welcome.
