Doctors working in Scottish A&E department­s dealt with hundreds of stabbings in the past year despite a long-term fall in levels of violent crime, figures show.

In comparison, since 1 January, 2019, there have been an incredible 100 homicides in England – 60 of these 100 murders were committed using knives, or other bladed weapons; 22 of these knife murders occurred in London; nine in Greater Manchester; eight in the West Midlands. The remaining 11 knife murders occurred across other parts of England.

Samuelcold­stream With a population of 55.62 million 100 in just over three months is not bad; last year London was hitting 40 knife crimes a day. Scotland had 60 murders last year, with a population of 5.42m, so per capita murders are higher in Scotland than England.

Sheeps Sadly, the commendabl­e recent efforts in Scotland by the Violence Reduction Unit have been negated by what is currently thought in England to be cocainerel­ated mental health issues. At last in England stop-andsearch is being brought back. That is probably going to be necessary for at least the next ten years and we should have that now in Scotland so that lives can be saved. “government’”which is supposed to do stuff for us, but they do nothing. We have many government “ministers”, each on £110k per year plus expenses, who do nothing... and I mean nothing.
