First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has told MSPS Scots should be given the opportunity to vote again on independence before the Holyrood elections in 2021.
@wgsaraband tweeted: “Today’s statement by Nicola Sturgeon was superb. Rather than the brash and knee-jerk modus climate of Brexit, we have a calm and measured presentation of a series of plans and the methods necessary to achieve them with the greatest consensus.”
@C4ciaran said: “Scottish Government to set up Citizens Assembly on future of Scotland ahead of Indyref2. This is what Gordon Brown has been advocating in relation to Brexit.”
@Cllrnickcook continued: “Groundhog Day at Holyrood as Nicola Sturgeon uses the day to bang on about breaking up Britain. Again. Meanwhile our schools, hospitals and economy remain an afterthought for the SNP, despite vast existing devolved powers.”
@Singapore75 added: “Go for it Scotland. As an Englishman, I hope you can get out of the union but also remain in the EU, or apply again after this dog’s dinner is over. You’re a great nation with hell of a stronger identity than England on so many levels. Massive amount of respect to you.”

Friends, family and politicians gathered at St Anne’s Cathedral in Belfast to lay journalist Lyra Mckee to rest after she was shot dead during a riot.
@Patrickkielty tweeted: “Today Lyra Mckee is laid to rest. She believed in peace, tolerance and equality. The exact opposite of those responsible. They will never win because Lyra will always be the future. And her truth will continue to be told.”
@jane__bradley said: “I can’t believe I’m watching the funeral of a journalist in the UK in 2019 – especially one as bright and brilliant as Lyra. All the warm and wonderful tributes to her make the waste even more deeply sad.”
@Williamsjon wrote: “As Lyra Mckee’s funeral began in Belfast, team RTE gave her a minute’s round of applause in Dubin to show we stand with Lyra. United in grief & a demand for justice.”
@Dawnhfoster said: “Vigils for Lyra Mckee across Ireland and Britain. Please take part, or just spare a few minutes to think about all the lives she touched.”
@trishdevlin added: “Thinking of all Lyra’s family and many friends today.”
