#CASTERSEMENYA
South African athlete Caster Semenya has lost her appeal against the IAAF over their ruling on her testosterone levels. The Olympic 800m champion will now have to artificially reduce her naturally high testosterone levels if she wants to continue in the sport.
@Joelcacooney wrote: “Cyclist Miguel Indurain had freakishly large lung capacity, and a resting pulse rate akin to an elephant. Michael Phelps – the most decorated Olympian in history – has size 14 feet. Neither were ever disqualified due to physical advantages they had, nor were they expected to reduce or surpress their natural abilities in order to compete more fairly with more-average athletes.”
@Rossmccaff opined: “The Caster Semenya decision is a joke and everyone involved, from Seb Coe to the media outlets and fellow athletes who demonised her, should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.”
@Danielledash posted: “This is sad day. I am heartbroken for Caster Semenya. The idea that she will be forced to take drugs to reduce the naturally occurring testosterone in her body to appease the likes of Paula Radcliffe is barbaric.” @Craftbeercommie said: “This decision will go down in the annals of history. Not just as a mistake, but a hideous, racist, misogynistic and colonially managed acquiescence to white fears.”
#CLIMATEEMERGENCY
Opposition politicians in the Commons used the slight respite in Brexit debates to push for the UK Government to declare Climate Change a national emergency.
@Pippacrerar noted: “High Court rules in favour of UK Government plan for Heathrow third runway – just hours before Commons debate on climate emergency.”
@Strike4youth threatened: “MPS have the opportunity today to do something historic and follow in Scotland and Wales’ footsteps in declaring a #Climateemergency. Make no mistake we will remember who voted for the first step in securing our future, and those who didn’t.”
@Jon_bartley surmised: “Changing everything requires choices to be made – on airports, on road building, on HS2, on fossil fuel subsidies – and these are choices that most politicians don’t want to face up to.”
