# GOVAN Scottish MP Jo Swinson, tipped to be the next UK leader of the Liberal Democrats, faced a backlash over comments she made on inequalities in Scottish education. Appearing on the BBC’S flagship political debate show she claimed that just four per cent of children growing up in Govan were going on to university.

@ Stewartmcdonald said: “I didn’t go to university but I did go to Govan High School - the area Jo Swinson is smearing with false figures. They taught us to do our homework, which if Jo had bothered to do she’d know that what she’s saying is absolute rubbish.”

@ Susaninlangside

said: “Well that’s a pile of nonsense @ joswinson. It was 23% at the last count & 93% of @ Govanhighschool pupils went on to positive destinations last year ( university is not the be all & end all, btw.) They could do without your outdated, narrow, stereotyping worldview”

@ mikedailly agreed:

“Well said Susan. Lots of positive destinations, apprenticeships, college and jobs, as well as uni. Jo Swinson is out of touch yet quick to make ill- informed

value judgments that are quite demeaning to young people in Govan.”

@ Govanhighschool

added: “We have the highest aspirations for all of our young people. We are proud of and value all of the positive destinations to which our young people progress. It’s ill informed perceptions like @ joswinson that harm our community.”

# WILLSMAN

Pete Wilsman, a member of Labour’s ruling NEC, has been suspended pending investigation after branding anti- Semitism claims “total lies” in a secretly- recorded rant.

@ davidschneider said: “While Pete Willsman remains on the NEC I have no confidence that Labour is dealing with antisemitism. Here he is denying antisemitism while literally using an antisemitic trope ( that it’s all a conspiracy, in this case orchestrated by the Israeli embassy).”

@ frankfieldteam added:

“I was thrown out of the Labour Party after 60 years of trying to make it electable, as I resigned the whip over Labour’s inaction on bullying and its hopeless stance against anti- Semitism. Whereas Peter Willsman is merely suspended pending an investigation”
