Reigning World Series champions the Boston Red Sox won for the first time in five games with an 8-5 victory over rivals the New York Yankees.

David Price was the star for the Sox as he gave up only two runs and six hits across 6⅓ innings, while Brandon Workman recorded the save and Boston put five runs on the board in the seventh and eighth innings.

Albert Pujols drove in five as the Los Angeles Angels recorded a 13-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.

The Angels put seven on the board in the second with three coming after a Pujols home run, his 11th of the season, and he added a two-run double in the fifth. The Washington Nationals continued their purple patch with a 4-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds with Max Scherzer striking out 15 and allowing only three hits across eight innings, while the Minnesota Twins topped the Tampa Bay Rays 9-7. Elsewhere, the Houston Astros needed 12 innings to beat division rivals the Oakland Athletics 6-4 and Adrian Sampson struck out 11 as the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals 5-1.

BASKETBALL

The Golden State Warriors levelled their NBA Finals series against the Toronto Raptors with a 109-104 victory in Canada. Klay Thompson and Steph Curry both put 15 on the board in the first half, and the Warriors went on an 18-0 run to start the third quarter in the victory.

The closing seconds of the game were closer than the reigning NBA champions would have liked, with the Raptors going on a 10-0 run late to bring the game to within five points with a minute remaining. Fred Van Vleet missed a shot, while Kawhi Leonard also failed to score but a Danny Green three made it 106-104 with 26.9 seconds left. Andre Iguodala put the game beyond reach with a three-pointer with 7.0 seconds left to seal the win. Thompson, who left the game early, finished the night with 25 points, while Curry added 23 and Draymond Green 17.
