#DDAY75
Emmanuel Macron, Donald Trump, Theresa May, Angela Merkel and more world leaders gather in Portsmouth, England, with the Queen to pay tribute to the soldiers who died in World War II.
@realdonaldtrump said: “As we approach the 75th Anniversary of D-day, we proudly commemorate those heroic and honorable patriots who gave their all for the cause of freedom during some of history’s darkest hours.”
@Carolinelucas posted: “On #Dday75 we remember & honour all those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. It’s also a moment to reflect on the importance of doing everything we can to build a more peaceful world. We owe it to them to co-operate with our neighbours and actively wage peace.
@Mollymep wrote: “Britain’s wartime generation are almost as pro-eu as millennials. Those who actually remember the war are strong supporters of the peace that the European Union has brought
@theresa_may added: “I’m delighted that the 16 countries represented at D-day commemorations in Portsmouth have today agreed a historic Proclamation affirming our shared responsibility to ensure the horror of the Second World War is never repeated.”
@Carllids1 summed it all up: “Absolutely brilliant and thought-provoking ceremony. Thank you to everyone”
#STRAIGHTPRIDE
June marks Pride Month, but three men in Boston have applied for permission to hold a “Straight Pride” parade.
@tomcoates said: “So let’s be clear - LGBT people have a pride parade in order to be more visible, acknowledged and to campaign to get equal rights. Straight people are visible, acknowledged and have equal rights.”
@Miklecoyle posted: “The Straight Pride Parade IS the Pride Parade, and straight people have a vital place in it – on the sidelines cheering our friends, allies, and loved ones on.”
@Ronfunches wrote: “You can’t have a Straight Pride Parade. Parades are inherently gay. Embrace it.”
@lennymac1 added: “The only straight Parade is the Prince album”
