Confident Muir feeling at home as a full-time athlete

● Scot says she can improve in Rome ● Mccolgan aiming to beat four minutes

Laura Muir is feeling her age. Perhaps even a little older. Not for the many miles put on the clock over several years in a r e l e n t l e s s t r a i n i n g r e g i me . But for the ver y adult activ - i t y o f p r o c u r i n g a h o me o f her own in Glasgow, a haven to lock herself away from the mania of Olympic dreams and the breathless bouncing from one airport to another on athletics’ global circuit.

“I was a s tudent for seve n ye a r s a n d wa s r e n t i n g a n d sharing with other students for that whole time,” said the 26-year-old.

“It’s definitely nicer to have my own place now. It makes m e f e e l a b i t m o r e g r o w n - u p .” A n i nve s t me n t f o r t h e future for the returns gained as a consequenc­e of Europe - an titles and ample A-list victories in the Diamond League a n d e l s e wh e r e , i n a d d i t i o n to an endorsemen­t deal with Nike that will likely set her fair for life.

Liberated from the distractio­ns of vet school, she hints at the potential to make even speedier strides forward. “I’ve been able to go away on a lot more camps without b eing tied to university,” she said.

“I’ve found myself busy and without a huge amount of time which I guess is good. I’ve probably been paying more attention to those little details with extra time for rest and recovery. I’ve not found myself twiddling my thumbs.”
