The Miami Marlins put 11 runs on the board in the fifth inning as part of a 16-0 demolition of the Milwaukee Brewers. The NL East’s basement side were already 4-0 up after three with homers from Starlin Castro, Garrett Cooper and Brian Anderson. And the scoreboard kept ticking in the fifth as every Miami starter recorded at least one hit, scored at least once and drove in at least one run.

Anthony Rendon drove in five as the Washington Nationals saw off the Chicago White Six 9-5. Rendon had a tworun RBI in the third and followed that up with a homer in the fifth.

The Detroit Tigers had a Miguel Cabrera grand slam to thank as they claimed a win at home for the first time in 11 games. Cabrera had three hits in all as the Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-6. The Atlanta Braves left it late but added three runs in each of the last three innings in a 12-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Four runs in the fifth was enough for the Toronto Blue Jays to edge the New York Yankees 4-3 and the Cleveland Indians saw off the Minnesota Twins 5-2. The New York Mets and San Francisco Giants went to extras but the Giants won 9-3, the Chicago Cubs defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-3 and the Baltimore Orioles edged out the Texas Rangers 12-11. Eduardo Nunez went deep as the Boston Red Sox recorded an 8-3 win over the Kansas City Royals and Yasiel Puig notched up his 11th homer of the season in a 4-1 win for the Cincinnati Reds over the St Louis Cardinals.
