#BORISJOHNSON

The first stage of voting for the new leader of the Conservative Party concluded with a comfortable win for Boris Johnson, who is now guaranteed a place in the final two candidates. Mark Harper, Andrea Leadsom and Esther Mcvey were eliminated.

@Technoiruk said: “Can we have a list of every person voting for him? Just so we know who to blame.”

@Markofbattersea commented: “Game over! Boris Johnson is virtually PM already. Time for me to investigate emigration from the UK (while it still exists).”

@Mickytwopints posted: “Well that’s two of the most odious contenders knocked out. Problem is, the third one is winning. What is the matter with people?”

@ctriefus said: “Am I really so out of touch with this country that I just cannot see why anyone would consider Boris Johnson a suitable candidate for Prime Minister?”

@Skinner1965 said: “Theresa May’s chuckles as she will no longer be the worse PM ever. That person is about to be elected.”

@Drewjarviescomb posted: “Career politician Ruth Davidson will have flipped from Sajid camp to Boris camp by next Tuesday.”

@Richardnorthey commented: “Maybe Boris is the candidate who can unify the Conservative Party and the country.”

@Spinderellie added: “Worst episode of The Thick of It ever.”

#JOBRAND

Comedian Jo Brand , while appearing on Radio 4’s panel show Heresy, which invites contestants to explore extreme positions in a funny way, made a joke about milkshake attackers using battery acid. Many people are upset, while others say the comments in the context of the show aren’t offensive.

@pugwash84 said: “Normally her jokes are on point but this was a bad joke and she should apologise.”

@ruanesh said: “Don’t judge without context. The show was called Heresy – the clue is in the name. Yes it might be bad taste but it’s the whole premise of the show to push comedic boundaries. I bet other jokes on the show were just as outrageous.”

@45paulritchie posted: “Anyone who ever mentions or even jokes about throwing acid over someone should be charged.”

@Melshenny1 added: Jo Brand is Jo Brand. It is just how she is. It’s a joke.”
