put my finger on it. I mean, why would countries want to join the EU when they could clearly ask to become part of this new British empire.

How does Lesley Riddoch think Scots being less gloomy is down to the political culture? Scots have always been mostly cheery with a good sense of humour. Their cheeriness is now stretched to the limit because of the divide created by the SNP and constant Indy carping. Also, all the failures of SNP policies. The political culture is at an all-time low.

Against all odds and under the thumb of our neighbouring country, the majority of Scots are friendly, caring, visionary people who are looking for a better future for their children and grandchildren. A future where there is hope and where we are in charge of our own destiny in an independent Scotland. Nothing unusual in this point of view. In fact, it’s absolutely normal for other countries.

Mary Cox Well, it’s clearly nothing to do with the weather. It’s been gloomy since April.

BBC Scotland figures branded ‘deplorable’ after 21 shows have no viewers at all

Do we need a dedicated BBC Scotland channel? Eh, no. Scrap it before it haemorrhages any more money and sack whoever thought of this ridiculous folly.

John Barclay BARB figures are based on a sample of 5000 homes across the UK, not the whole population

Robert Ross Slightly misleading figures. A third of those ‘no audience’ programmes were a 60-second news bulletin when the channel comes on air, so literally only people sitting waiting for it to start will see it. There have been some cracking shows on the channel so far that wouldn’t have got a look-in on the main BBC channels, so it’s undoubtedly a good thing. Their budget is also a drop in the ocean for the BBC – Match of the Day costs them twice as much a year to produce (£60m-plus) as this channel does (£32m-plus)

Ross Attenburgh There’s some really good content on there if you look, rather than go greeting about it. TUNE and A View from the Terrace are both cracking local content.

Maybe it’s because a large number of Scottish people have opened their eyes to the bias of the BBC and refuse to watch any of its channels.

Fiona Fletcher

So the BBC is viewed by SNP supporters as biased towards the Tories and the Tories think it’s biased towards Labour. In reality it’s probably one of the least biased channels overall, produces some amazing shows (Blue Planet) also some utter rubbish (fill in your opinion, mine is Eastenders). Yes it’s biased towards the Union, but the clue is in the name – British Broadcasting Corporation.
