- By HANNAH BURLEY

Water retailer Business Stream has generated more than £250 million in new business during the last two years thanks to expansion south of the Border.

The Edinburgh-based firm said it has achieved the landmark figure on the back of the English retail water market being opened up in April 2017.

Recent sign-ups include the Uk-wide portfolios of Lloyds Banking Group, Network Rail, Regus Management (UK) and Cancer Research, along with a Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation deal that Business Stream claims is the largest single public sector contract to be awarded this year.

The Scottish firm also confirmed its acquisition of the non-household customer bases of Yorkshire Water Business Services and Three-sixty, both part of the Kelda Group, which will see its manage a further 140,000 customers.

It marks the group’s second acquisition since the English market opened, following the addition of Southern Water’s non-household book, with the deal taking effect in April 2017.

Business Stream said the Kelda transaction almost doubles its market share, helping to cement its position as one of the top three largest water retailers in the UK market.

Chief executive Jo Dow said: “It has been an exciting two years for our business. We remain focused on continually raising the bar to provide market-leading services, alongside our commitment to help our customers reduce their water use by 20 per cent.

“Looking ahead, our focus will be on ensuring a seamless transition for our new customers.”
