St Mirren need penalties to stay second as East Kilbride shock City

Dunfermlin­e stayed at the top of Group H without kicking a ball after St Mirren’s frustratin­g Betfred Cup campaign ended goalless at Albion Rovers with Jim Goodwin’s side picking up an extra point with a 4-3 penalty kick success.

The Saints made and missed chances and had a late Cameron Breadner effort ruled out for offside before Bryan Wharton and Smart Osadolor’s misses from 12 yards.

Edinburgh City went down 1-0 to visitors East Kilbride with Ruari Paton hitting a second-half winner for the Lowland League side.

Motherwell maintained their perfect record in Group E with a 2-0 win at Dumbarton. The Fir Park side had to wait until three minutes from the break to open the scoring with Christian Ilic drilling home. Peter Hartley headed the second to secure the win with 14 minutes left.

Annan, where Aidan Nesbitt fired home on eight minutes after the home defence failed to clear. The Greenock side led 3-0 at the break after Nicky Cadden cracked in two terrific drives with Nesbitt running clear to grab the fourth seven minutes from time and Robbie Muirhead wrapping things up.

Livingston returned to the top of Group G thanks to a 2-1 win at Stranraer where they broke the deadlock three minutes from thebreakwh­ensteven Lawless despatched a penalty after Lyndon Dykes was fouled.

They quickly added a second when Aymen Souda turned in a cross with the hosts pulling a goal back when Cammy Elliot got the better of Ross Stewart on 57 minutes.

Falkirk finished their campaign with a 3-0 triumph at Berwick where they hit the front after 13 minutes thanks to a header from Declan Mcmanus. Robbie Leitch added the second six minutes after the break with Denny Johnstone also finding the net. Inverness Caley Thistle top Group D after a rollercoas­ter 3-2 win over visitors Cove Rangers. Jordan White helped a Brad Mckay header over the line on 38 minutes to give Caley the lead but Mitch Megginson goals either side of half-time put Cove ahead. Caley took the points after James Keatings and substitute Nikolay Todorov, pictured, scored.

Peterhead’s qualificat­ion hopes ended when they went down 3-1 at Raith Rovers, where Kieron Bowie slid the ball home from ten yards after four minutes. Michael Miller thumped in a second midway through the opening half with Lewis Allan heading home the third before Ben Armour grabbed a late consolatio­n.

In Group C, Alloa came from behind to beat Stirling 2-1 at the Indodrill Stadium. The visitors got their noses in front on 51 minutes thanks to David Wilson’s stunning freekick but Kevin O’hara equalised with Liam Buchanan nodding in the winner four minutes from time.
