New prime minister Boris Johnson arrived at Bute House to meet First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, only to be greeted by jeering protesters.

@HOOP34905723 earlier tweeted: “OK confirmed Boris coming to Holyrood around 2pm before going to Bute House to meet the First Minister. If anyone can get here I could do with some bodies.”

@Mr_mark_brown wrote: “Nicola’s Army have assembled, armed with their flegs, outside Bute House. What a time to be alive.”

@stvewan added: “Not exactly a warm reception from onlookers for the Prime Minister as he arrives at Bute House for talks with the First Minister.”

@rosscolquhoun said: “I’ve never seen a newly elected Prime Minister get booed like Boris Johnson currently is outside Bute House in Scotland.”

@Dantew said: “Well, he said he doesn’t listen to the polls, no choice but to listen to the public there.”

@Fanxxxxtastic-trada reckoned: “The same thing should be happening in the UK.”

@Lanwindowclean cheered: “Plenty boos for Boris at Bute House. Love the way @Nicolasturgeon was trying to get him to stand for some more photos. Well played FM, well played!”

Meanwhile, the new premier scrapped the inquiry into Conservative MP Mark Field for grabbing a female protester.

@j4ysamuel wrote: “He was escorting her from the premises for being belligerent, loud, and preventing a breach of the peace.”

@Gwyglyn disagreed; “These Tories are unbelievable. Sending the message out that it’s OK to assault women, protester or not, is shocking.”

@clerobo: added: “Bloody hell! He manhandled her! She’d been vetted and could not have had a weapon! The man is a bully!”

@Dayveswbird said: “Good on you Boris, loving your work.”

@FGH22GILL added: “No longer any pretense of doing the right thing.”

@annispice tweeted: “From what I saw of the video and I watched in many times ..... there nothing to have an inquiry about ... except how she got into Mansion House.”

@Grahamwatt41 wrote: “Looking after the boys.”

@alfiesmum5 wrote: “Morally bankrupt.”
