Forfarshire centurion plays down title talk

Chris Greaves tried to play down his best knock since joining Forfarshire – and insisted there is still no “title-tattle” in the dressing room.

The Broughty Ferry boys may have one hand on the championship trophy after demolishing Stoneywooddyce, however they are taking nothing for granted.

Greaves’ 180 at Peoples Park was the highest tally in the competition so far this season.

He said: “It was a great day for the club and I am happy to have contributed to another important win. It was up there with one of my best batting performances, especially on a tricky surface.

“Things are going well and it is exciting to be at the top of the table, but we will still be taking it one game at a time. We will continue to play the Forfs way and we hope the rewards will come from that.”

It fell to batting partner Michael Leask to shower the praise on Greaves. Leask, who made 75 to help propel the visitors to a lofty 394 for six, stated: “Greavo was amazing.

“From ball one he struck it cleanly, played very sensibly and picked his options wisely on a spinning wicket.

“We still have some tough challenges to come before the end of the season and we have to keep on doing what we have been doing.”

Brock Ditchmen was the Forfs bowling hero, snapping up five for 42 as Stoneywooddyce plunged to 146 all out – a huge losing margin of 248.

Champions Grange kept alive their slim hopes of retaining the crown with a 130-run success at the expense of

Arbroath at Lochlands.

Again, Oli Hairs was the main man with the bat for the Edinburgh troops, hitting 66 in their total of 226. Host pro Wihan Lubbe bagged four scalps.

John Blain and Stuart Davidson then each struck twice to prevent Arbroath finding momentum in their chase and no-one was able to reach 25 as they were skittled for 96.

Michael Sheehan and Mark Watt shared an eight-wicket haul to inspire Heriot’s toa five-wicket win over Stewart’s Melville at Goldenacre.
