What’s the last piece of clothing you bought?

A nursing top from ASOS. I had my daughter on 2 March, so my wardrobe has gone through many changes in the last year, and will continue to evolve as everything becomes encrusted in vomit.

What are you addicted to buying?

Accessories. I often fall back on the trusty staples – a headscarf I bought while holidaying in Ithaca, a geometric necklace from a department store, and my go-with-everything gold hoop earrings.

Best ever bargain?

A proper steel-boned spiralstitched cone-boob corset made by Vollers Corset Company in Portsmouth. I got it in Camden Market for £25, but it turned out to be a one off worth hundreds of pounds.

Who has great style?

Janelle Monáe does glamdrogyny extremely well – powerfully feminine but always walking the tightrope.

Name your favourite high street shop.

Knowing that my daughter will go through clothes so quickly, I decided to go to charity shops rather than buying new, and while in there perhaps found one or two treats for Mummy.

Any fashion disasters you’d care to tell us about?

I have a hot pink vintage dress that I love. It has an elasticated waist, and it makes my torso look like it’s 80 per cent boobs. But not in a sexy way, more like a frumpy nana who’s tarted herself up for the bingo.

What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?

A beaded embellished oversized checked shirt from Zara. It can be dressy with the sparkles, but it’s never over-dressed because of the checks. And I can breastfeed in it. n Frisky & Mannish’s Poplab is at Assembly George Square Gardens, 7pm until 25 August (not 12 and 19) as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Tickets from £14, call 0131-226 0026 or see www.edfringe.com
