Marching orders

-

Much of the centre of Edinburgh is set to grind to a halt on Saturday as tens of thousands of independence supporters converge on the Capital. Organisers of the All Under One Banner rally predict that more than 100,000 people – and potentially as many as 250,000 – will take part.

If I wasn’t busy in Sheffield I’d add an English voice to the plea for Scottish independence. It’s time we rid parliament of the SNP MPS that don’t want to be there and just use their vote to stymie progress in the rest of the UK.

Nothing to do with the current government ripping themselves apart? Can’t see the wood for the trees.

Colm Gray

MPS sticking up for the people that voted for them – here’s me thinking that’s democracy. I didn’t see any buses with rubbish on them up this way. We have a Tory Party looking after the Tory Party, the ERG hiding their money out of the UK and Farage arranging foreign passports for his sprogs and you complain about the Scots.

Bill Beveridge You’re not going to have a “UK” after Brexit. Better get used to it.

Alison Gunn Another unnecessary disruption to businesses and a further drain on the public purse for providing police attendance and other necessary services. Still, it’s a day out for those with nothing better to do I suppose.

Peter Brown Knowing Edinburgh well, and its creaking infrastructure, such as rail links, public transport, road restrictions, and general lack of space, if the supposed 250,000 people turned up for this march not only would the city centre grind to a halt but the whole of Edinburgh, including the bypass, would gridlock. Remember what happened recently when the crowd of a concert, and the crowds from a rugby match hit the streets at the same time; travel chaos, and that was only a few thousand people. So if during the runup, and procession of this march there is no resultant chaos in Edinburgh, then the figures that may be quoted for the number of marchers will have to be an exaggeration.

Ann Selkirk Funny how all the apologists are greetin’ about this. Last time the march took over two
