Cooking up an attractive appeal

A major selling point at the heart of the home, developers are offering attractive kitchen deals, finds Kirsty Mcluckie

Kitchen designs have changed a lot in the past couple of decades. From the functional galley layouts, we have added dining space, and then seating areas and more recently there has been a trend for open-plan kitchens connected to the garden, with glazing, conservatories and bi-fold doors, turning the room in which we prepare food into the epicentre of family life.

In older homes, this has seen a trend for extensions, but for those looking to buy a new house, more developers are offering choices when it comes to the layout and fittings of the kitchen.

To highlight the potential in its properties, Miller Homes has teamed up with 2019 BBC Masterchef finalist Jilly Mccord to host an event at its Bothwellbank development in Bothwell. Taking place this Saturday, Mccord will offer attendees tips for creating the perfect kitchen space, as well as serving up brunch canapés.

Louise Caldwell, sales director Scotland West at Miller Homes, says: “Jilly is one of Scotland’s most talented chefs, and we’re delighted to welcome her to Bothwellbank.”

During the event, guests will be able to tour the five-bedroomed showhome, complete with openplan kitchen and dining room, and luxurious master suite.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes are offering attractive kitchen packages, as well as other incentives, at sites across the east of the country.

Anne Ross, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes East Scotland, says: “The Edinburgh housing market is buoyant and in this climate there are many advantages to buying new. Our current range of offers and incentives provide fantastic value for money.”

At David Wilson at Heritage Grange, Edinburgh house hunters can benefit from LBTT contributions, part exchange and up to £17,000 of added extras for upgraded kitchens and finishings. Prices start from £257,995 for the three-bedroom detached Gourock housetype.

Barratt Homes’ deals at Heritage Grange include three-bedroomed properties from £248,995 with part exchange or a contribution towards LBTT as well as £6,000 worth of upgrades, including an enhanced kitchen.

Meanwhile, Allanwater Homes has introduced an online home hub for buyers to access information on purchasing a property, from reservation to aftercare and including a section for selecting options and finishes.

The hub launch coincides with the introduction of Allanwater’s new specification, which applies to developments in Alloa, Alva and Rumblingwell, Dunfermline.

Included as standard are Rocha sanitaryware, Zanussi stainless steel appliances with induction hobs, thermostatic showers, kitchens from Moores plus monoblock driveways, solar panels, and USB charging stations.

Commenting on the home hub initiative, David Stirling, managing director of Allanwater, says: “We are delighted to claim an industry first in introducing this online facility, for anyone to access home buying advice and information.”

Allanwater is currently selling in Alloa, Alva and Rumblingwell with prices from £157,995.

A few final homes remain for sale at The Views in Saline, including a five-bedroom Vorlich villa at £339,995, available with a kitchen upgrade, turfed rear garden and all flooring throughout.
