It is a great privilege for me to be welcoming Scotland’s newest solicitors to the legal profession. They start an exciting and fulfilling career in law today, after years of hard work, commitment and dedication. I am sure they will continue to learn, develop and have new experiences throughout their professional lives.
Our newest members are joining a profession respected around the world. The Law Society of Scotland will be there to offer support and guidance throughout their working lives, providing expert advice on professional practice, ethics, training and the rules and guidelines that govern the profession.
New lawyers can help others, perhaps law students and trainee solicitors, by working with our education, training and qualifications team. Or they can give us their views through the Law Society’s various social media platforms. It is only by listening to our members that we can be sure to offer the support they need most.
It is not only as individuals that solicitors are influential or respected as pillars of society. Our strength comes in being part of a bigger group which, through collective knowledge, skill and diversity, is far greater than the sum of its parts.
The Law Society relies on the involvement of our members and I would urge our new members to get involved as much as they can in its work, ensuring that they add their voices to those of their solicitor colleagues in Scotland and throughout the world.
Today’s new solicitors are the future of our profession and their hard-won qualification is highly respected by employers, the public and other professionals across the world. I salute their success and hope they celebrate this special day with their friends and families.
