Whisky galore

with crossovers or sudden changes from dual to single carriageways.

We can stop upgrading the roads in Scotland when they are safe and up to modern standards. We’re going electric anyway . . .

Michael Dowds

Just get on with it. As noted earlier it’s a safety-related project. What does climate change have to do with it? Will the Cairngorms be flooded by climate change?

Robin David Griffiths

Will it be needed in the future when most people won’t be able to afford a private car, or run it due to congestion charges, parking charges, road tolls set by local councils to fix the potholes, and so on, never mind the original cost of switching from fossil fuel to electric ?

Ann Selkirk

There’s nothing wrong with the A9 – just the clowns on it not knowing when and when not to overtake.

William Mcdonald

Or driving on the right instead of the left. I’ve seen plenty of tourists do that.

Christine Heeps Single malt whisky exported from Scotland to the United States is set to be hit by a 25 per cent tariff in a fortnight’s time. The levy is part of a raft of measures being imposed by the US under president Donald Trump in retaliation against EU subsidies given to aircraft maker Airbus.

I thought we had a special relationship and were friends!

Iris Mair

And yet this is the great America that is meant to save us all when we exit the EU. Some fairy story that, especially with a man such as Trump in charge who does what he wants on a whim.

Seline Laurie

We may have a wee whinge but an even bigger disgrace is the massive taxes imposed on our whisky in this country. It’s still probably cheaper to buy a Scottish single malt in the US.

Stephen Ross Tuesday: Trump’s application to build hundreds of houses on his Turnberry resort rejected. Wednesday: Trump slaps 25 per cent import duty on Scotch whisky and cashmere. Coincidence?

Jim Egan

If we weren’t in the EU this tariff increase wouldn’t have happened. Another reason to leave the EU. UK companies put at a disadvantage because of a decision made by the EU, something we have no say in.

Shaun Stevens

So you really think he would never do this to any other trade partner? He’s doing this to everyone. At least right now we’re still able to enjoy free trade with the EU with its 480 million population.

Anna Edgar

The Scottish Government should retaliate and shut down his financial interests in Scotland.

Robert Mcneil Scotland has been supplying whisky to the States from the days of Al Capone and prohibition. Taxing it on the USA side isn’t going to stop or hit sales.
