Edinburgh’s 31 December celebrations will start earlier, end later and extend to the Royal Mile

I knew this was coming . Remember when tickets to the street “party” were free? Then they started a “small charge” of £2.50 and now it’s over £15 ? I don’t know as I haven’t been in city centre for years at Hogmanay . This new starting time will make it even less likely for Edinburgh’s own citizens to enjoy a day out on Hogmanay in their own city centre.

Lovely! Half of the visitors won’t even make the bells… will peak too soon! No thought for people or businesses of Edinburgh.

In the 80s before all this organised stuff we would be in pubs in the Royal Mile or Rose Street until 11.45pm then make our way to the Tron or Princes Street and have a street party until at least that time! It’s one night, let those that want to partake in it enjoy themselves. It brings a lot of money into Edinburgh. The hospitality trade wouldn’t survive without these kind of events.
