#QUEENSSPEECH

Boris Johnson’s government has set out “ambitious” policies on crime, health, the environment and Brexit in a Queen’s Speech that opposition parties have dismissed as an “election manifesto”.

@Femi_sorry said: “I’m not a royalist but Her Majesty The Queen is a sacred part of our national identity. To see her forced to read out Brexit propaganda lines from 2016, on the orders of a man whose previous instructions implicated her and the Crown in unlawful action, made me sick.”

@davidschneider commented: “Woman gives speech she didn’t write with policies that won’t be delivered from a government without the numbers to govern pushing for a Brexit no one voted for.”

@Andrewrose11 said: “Very ‘ambitious’ given Boris currently has no majority in parliament to enact anything.”

@spaceangel1964 posted: “The Queen’s Speech reminded me of the Christmas present list I wrote to Santa aged six when I wished for a Chopper and most of the toy section of the Littlewoods catalogue. We lived in a council flat an my mum was a single parent working as a cleaner, so chances of getting any of it = nil!”

@mgacramer said: “Never seen the Queen have such a ‘Beam me up Scotty’ look on her face until today.”

@faizashaheen posted: “All this theatre, paid for by you and I, for a Conservative Party political broadcast that includes hot air on Brexit, Tory hypocrisy on crime, NHS, education and the climate with undertones of xenophobia and fearmongering.”

@mishkab commented: “Fed up of the bickering and the slams. Just govern on behalf of, and in the best interests of, the British people – all of them!”

@Tuurverheyde said: “Britain really does need a codified constitution and an elected second chamber, but I don’t see why this absurdist theatre needs to go. It seems pretty harmless.”

@Garyopinionated commented: “I watched this and had to go and sit on my own throne.”

@sugaracre added: “Good luck with all that, Madge. And cheerio from Scotland.”
