Donaldson alert to Grammar’s ‘threats all over the field’

- By GARY HEATLY

Second takes on third today when Currie Chieftains host Aberdeen Grammar.

Currie have won their last two games since they were defeated by leaders Marr, while grammar are searching for their fifth win on the spin.

Gregor Hunter and Cammy Meager return from injury to augment the home backline at Malleny Park. Sam Edwards replaces Josh O’brien in the pack after impressing off the bench last week.

Aberdeen have named a settled-looking squad after a good run of form. Mattias Schosser starts at tighthead prop with Ross Anderson reverting to the bench while Gregor Nicholl earns a bench spot.

“Aberdeen will be full of confidence and have made a great start on their return to the Premiership,” Currie assistant coach Ally Donaldson said. “They are a physical side with threats all over the park. We feel we have made some improvements in recent weeks, but we still need to keep getting better and be as close to the top of our game as possible.”

Marr, at home to Edinburgh Accies, aim to make it seven wins from seven. With Jack Preston not available Greg Montgomery will start at scrum-half for the Troon side. Gregor Ness, Jack Scott and a fit again Scott Bickerstaff make up a whole new back three.

Callum Ramm starts on the wing for Accies after a spell in Australia with Mark Sinclair and Neil Armstrong also coming into the backline.

Jed-forest, who are fourth in the table, are on the road to GHA. Monty Mitchell and Robbie Yourston swap positions, the former now at centre and the latter at stand-off for Jed, while GHA have skipper Jamie Mccarthy back to start in the second-row. Hawick and Glasgow Hawks, both on a run of poor form, meet at Mansfield Park. Gareth Welsh and Bailey Donaldson come in at nine and 10 for Hawick while they are missing Dale Johnstone and Bruce Mcneil. Hawks have a number of experienced players back along with playmaker Liam Brims.

Selkirk will start as favourites against Musselburgh at Philiphaugh.
