Broxburn and Penicuik pull off shock cup wins

East of Scotland minnows Broxburn Athletic’s maiden voyage in the Scottish Cup will continue with a trip to Inverurie Locos in the third round after an impressive 3-0 success over Cowdenbeat­h.

Broxburn went ahead thanks to Zander Miller’s penalty just before half-time with Miller having a second spot-kick, and a rebound effort, saved by Kevin Dabrowski.

Craig Scott thumped in the second from 25 yards with 18 minutes left and substitute Conor Kelly sealed the win with his first touch. Manager Brian Mcnaughton said: “To go through to the third round in our first run is incredible. It is fairytale stuff, but it was deserved.”

Lowland League Penicuik Athletic are also in dreamland after defeating Stenhousem­uir 3-0 to book a trip to Partick Thistle. Cuikie got their noses in front on 51 minutes when Craig Stevenson tucked in a rebound after his spot-kick was saved. Five minutes later Ryan Baptie doubled Penicuik’s lead with Sean Stewart grabbing the third goal.

Albion Rovers ended Fort William’s interest with a 5-0 success at Claggan Park in their replay to set up a derby with Airdrie.

Jack Breen hit the opener and Ouzy See notched a double before Smart Osadolor’s header made the score 4-0 at the break. Scott Roberts completed the scoring with Rovers’ Will Graham dismissed late on.

Scott Mclean scored twice as Annan eased past Brechin City 2-0 at Glebe Park in their second meeting to secure a tie against Edinburgh City. Mclean drilled in just after the hour before notching with an injury time penalty.

Formartine enjoyed a 2-1 replay success at Gala Fairydean Rovers where Garry Wood put the Highland League side ahead just before the hour mark and Jacob Campbell quickly levelled before Lewis Grant deflected a Craig Mckeown shot into his own net.

East Fife willhostbs­cglasgow after seeing off Lochee in yesterday’s replay. Dave Mckay turned in the opening goal on 24 minutes and Jamie Hamilton shot home the second on 54 minutes with Logan Davie’s late penalty setting up a grandstand finish.
