Presenter Colin Hampden-white
What’s the last piece of clothing you bought?
I had to get multiples of the same items for the filming of Three Drinkers Do Scotch Whisky. For example, I had to buy six of the same shirt, just in case I spilt something on one or couldn’t get them laundered while shooting around Scotland.
What are you addicted to buying?
Shoes. I have lots of different coloured trousers, which is a common thing in the wine trade, so I need shoes to match. I particularly like suede loafers.
Best ever bargain?
While in New York this year I found a pair of cufflinks for sale in the Metropolitan Museum of Art for $45. When I enquired about them afterwards I found they had Roman coins embedded in them and they were inset in silver, overlaid with rolled gold and originally sold for $900.
Who has great style?
Sophia Loren and Omar Sharif.
Name your favourite high street shop.
Tommy Hilfiger. I started wearing his clothes in my twenties and still find his style is relevant for me. His use of bright colours mixed with practicality is a great combination.
Any fashion disasters you’d care to tell us about?
I went through a short stage of wearing red with pink. Looking back at pictures I realise they didn’t go well together.
What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?
My Johnstons of Elgin cashmere sweaters. I have a few different colours. They are warm, hugely comfortable and, when you’re too hot, they still look good draped around one’s shoulders. n
