#NIGELFARAGE

Nigel Farage has said he will not be standing as an MP in the General Election, telling the BBC’S Andrew Marr he had thought “very hard” but had decided he could “serve the cause better” by supporting his party’s 600 candidates “across the UK”.

@m77kat77 commented: “So he’s moaning that we will have to negotiate for a few years. He bloody knew that anyhow, he was the one who said it could take up to 5 years.”

@Brexitdoyin tweeted: “Thank you @Nigel_farage for allowing 600 PPCS to stand on your shoulders in this mother of all #Generalelections.”

@Msparado felt that: “A vote for the Brexit Party Ltd is a vote for private healthcare.”

@warijan weighed in: “Honest Nige, out there ‘serving the cause of Brexit’ & denouncing the ‘elite’ whilst being paid at least €30,000 (£26,900) a month by his own media company, plus his pre-tax monthly MEP salary of €8,758, paid by an institution he rarely attends & claims to despise. Grifter.”

@incongru felt: “The greatest statesperson since Margaret Thatcher.” And @selzero chuckled: “I wonder what part of constantly losing, and eventually losing to a dolphin, lead to this decision.”

#FRACKINGBAN

The government has announced that fracking will not proceed in the UK after a study revealed that the size of tremors could not be predicted after earthquakes occurred near fracking sites.

@erinbiba welcomed the news: “This is a huge win for the environment and human health and women’s health specifically because women face outsized negative impacts from fracking.” From the United States,

@Sensanders tweeted: “Congratulations to the UK’S grassroots activists for successfully banning fracking. We know fracking contaminates our water. We know it pollutes the air we breathe. We know it fuels climate change. Together, we can – and we will – ban fracking in America, too.”

@nthurrzzz opined: “Sadly this is Tory election campaign mode – putting a pause on all the really nasty stuff that they will get hammered for in press and debates in hope they get back into power. Then back to business as usual with it all back to the top of the agenda.”
