Brendan Rodgers insists

Leicester are happy to be the forgotten men in the title race after a rampant win at Aston Villa.

Jamie Vardy scored twice to inspire the Foxes to a 4-1 victory and set a new club record of eight straight topflight wins.

Kelechi Iheanacho and Jonny Evans also netted as Leicester closed the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to eight points.

They are second, six clear of Manchester City, and Rodgers is relaxed about Leicester’s place among the leaders.

He said: “I don’t think anyone expects us to be near the top. After Manchester United won at Manchester City on Saturday, the captioncameupabouthowfar City are away from Liverpool. We respect that, we get on with our work and keep developing as a team.

“It was a real historic day. To surpass the club record of straight wins in the top flight was fantastic for us.”

Federico Fernandez scored a late winner as

Newcastle came from behind to beat Southampton 2-1.

The central defender smashed home his second goal of the season from close range after goalkeeper Alex Mccarthy could only parry substitute Sean Longstaff ’s 87thminute piledriver.

His effort came after Jonjo Shelvey had cancelled out Danny Ings’ opener.

Sheffield United fought back to seal a 2-1 victory at Norwich who had led through Alexander Tettey’s first-half goal.

The Blades dominated after the break. Enda Stevens’ header levelled and George Baldock fired the winner.

Wolves remain unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League matches following a 2-2 draw at Brighton.

Diogo Jota, pictured, fired the visitors ahead before a quickfire one-two by Neal Maupay and Davy Propper gave Brighton the advantage.

Jota scored his second a minute before half-time to take a share of the points.
