Time for supporters of independence to stop and take stock before all is lost

-

It is now time that supporters of independence stop and seriously take stock of what is happening to Scotland under the utterly incompetent SNP regime before all is lost.

Police watchdog chief Susan Deacon has resigned, stating that “arrangements for policing in Scotland are fundamentally flawed, in structure, culture and practice”.

It was believed by critics that Police Scotland was established by Kenny Macaskill to provide full nationalist political control and have the chief constable in the SNP pocket and that, according to Ms Deacon, is clearly what has happened.

Last week we learned that the Pisa results are a disgrace and Scottish children are being let down badly by the SNP. Children have died in hospitals due to poor governance, a flagship hospital is lying empty, costing taxpayers millions, the SNP is being sued by its own ferry quango Calmac over a contract row and Prestwick Airport has had over £40bn of taxpayers’ money ploughed into it. There is also a serious shortage of GPS.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies has seriously criticised SNP economics, confirming that an independent Scotland will have major austerity problems – confirmed, of course, years ago by the SNP’S own Andrew Wilson. An independent Scotland in the EU, if ever accepted, will have a hard border between Scotland and England, its greatest trading partner.

The list of failures and incompetencies by this bunch of “politicians” goes on and on, yet supporters refuse to believe there are any problems – let’s get independence and all will be well. What am I missing? With Scotland going downhill very quickly, will someone please tell me what I can’t see?

Meanwhile, Ms Sturgeon galivants throughout the UK as if she speaks for “the people of Scotland”. She did not speak for the majority in 2014 and by my reckoning she still does not.

So come on, SNP supporters, tell me, in view of all that is happening, how would you convince me to support a regime which is totally incompetent and would bankrupt my country?

Nicola Sturgeon once again has demonstrated that she exists in a bubble detached from reality. Her assertion that she doesn’t “want borders between Scotland and the rest of the UK” ignores the consequences of independence.

Furthermore, she clearly has ignored the ongoing debate over Ireland and how two neighbouring but distinctly different fiscal and regulatory can operate side-by-side.

The harsh and undeniable reality is that in the event of Scottish independence there will be a border with England and with Northern Ireland for customs and migratory checks. That’s one of many reasons why Jackson Carlaw is correct in arguing that there shouldn’t be another referendum for decades.

Nicola Sturgeon is being as misleading as Boris Johnson was during the 2016 referendum. She should desist.
