Winless Knights put to the sword by Heriot’s

-

Heriot’s coach Phil Smith saw the greater ambition of his men as a key factor in the hosts beating their FOSROC Super6 rivals for a second successive Saturday, writes Colin Renton.

“I thought there was one team really having a crack and trying to open the other team up, and the other one playing more cautiously,” he said.

Smith’s counterpart Rob Chrystie sees his side making progress, but was once again frustrated by errors at key moments that mean Knights are still seeking an elusive first win of the campaign.

“I think if we’re completely honest, Heriot’s were probably the stronger team, so well done to them,” he said magnanimously, before considering his own side’s efforts.

“We keep making individual errors and not being as connected as we need to be. Until we cut that out it’s always going to be difficult,” said Chrystie.

Heriot’s opened the scoring with a try from Michael Liness, converted by Ross Jones, who later added a penalty but Knights led by a point at halftime after Jason Baggott booted two penalties and Fraser Renwick touched down with the final play of the half.

Cameron Hutchison displayed impressive pace and strength to bag the try, converted by Jones, that allowed the hosts to regain the lead, and James Couper finished off the best move of the game to make the win safe.

However, Ruaridh Knott garnered a losing bonus point for the visitors when he finished off a powerful drive a couple of minutes before full-time.
