his pre-general election adoption of an even worse leave deal than Theresa May was able to negotiate, might be: what will he now offer Europe and/or can he outfox the SNP by dragging Scotland out of the EU before the end of this week?

Stuart

That “Scotland being dragged out” argument has cobwebs on.

David Arthur

Boris should cease offering anything extra to Scotland as it will merely result in more being “demanded” with further threats of what may or may not happen to aggravate the situation.

Seriously interested to know if the debate will make the independence “blueprint” open for examination. Last time I heard it was due to be launched in May 2018.

What can Boris offer Scotland? A lesson on how to abide by the result of a democratic vote by the people of the UK to start with.

Vince Vincent Why should an SNP demand result in getting something. Scotland and Sturgeon is like a grumpy teenager who expects every sulk to result in something being offered to appease her and every time anything changes, that she gets more or she’ll sulk again. The only way to make a sulky teenager grow up is stop giving in to demands. The word “No” can work wonders

Spooked

Boris Johnson has adopted an “anti-democratic position” with his opposition to a second referendum on Scottish independence, Scotland’s Constitution Secretary Mike Russell said.

No, he is respecting the democratic will of Scottish voter and the votes for the Unionist parties as placed in 2019, it is that simple.

Gavin Beattie Just checked the transcript of Nicola Sturgeon’s interview with Andrew Marr yesterday because I wasn’t certain I heard her correctly. “I’ve just won an election in Scotland,” she claimed. Totally arrogant and completely wrong.

Not a lemming

She wasn’t even a candidate, but she pretty much sidelined the majority of her party’s Westminster spokespeople; even Ian Blackford had limited coverage, although, to be fair, that was a bonus for us.

Esox Hunter Curious! Only 31.6 per cent of the Scottish electorate voted for the SNP. A large part if that vote may have been for Sturgeon’s main platform against Brexit and Scotland being taken out of the EU “against its will”!

B Cambayne Stop the bluster, SNP, indyref 2 isn’t going to happen anytime soon and you know it, certainly not on Johnson’s watch. And if it ever does, it won’t be simply because you wish it. You’ll have to show evidence you have the credible, coherent, costed case to present to the Scottish electorate that you didn’t have last time.

Jock Tamson So 45 per cent (minority) is democratic, but 55 per cent (majority) is not democratic? Only in the SNP deranged world does that make sense.

Nikoliar Slamondski

The SNP were agitating for a second referendum almost before the ink was dry on the result of the 2014 vote. It is they who have adopted an anti-democratic position.

Reality Demands to be Heard

Mike Russell is wrong. The SNP did not win an election in Scotland because the election was a UK election, not a Scottish one. The SNP have the largest vote share of all the parties, that’s all. The party gained a 45 per cent Scottish vote share, equivalent to a 3.9 per cent UK vote share. How is that “overwhelmingly” a vote for another referendum?

Not a lemming

They would lose another indyref if one was granted but that wouldn’t stop them starting their divisive ranting the very next day.
