Plenty to play for at Philiphaugh as Marr prepare for tough test against Selkirk

- By GARY HEATLY

Tennent’s Premiership leaders Marr face a tough trip to Philiphaugh to take on fourthplaced Selkirk this afternoon.

Marr saw their home match with Hawick postponed seven days ago, but Selkirk lost out late on in terrible conditions at Jed-forest.

That result, coupled with

Aberdeen Grammar’s win over Musselburgh, means Selkirk are clinging on to the final play-off spot by just three points from the men from the Granite City.

All of which means this one should be a cracker.

Marr have a few players returning, but Richard Dalgleish is unavailable due to injury. Head coach Craig Redpath said: “Selkirk away is always a tough game.

“They have a good record against us at home. Scott Wight [their head coach] will have them prepared well, they will be determined to win to remain in fourth.

“We have prepared for a tough, physical game against a good team and we look forward to the challenge.”

Second-placed Currie Chieftains are at home to Glasgow Hawks, who are ninth.

Scotland Club XV training squad member Rhys Davies is back from injury to strengthen the home forwards at No 8, Sam Edwards dropping down on to the bench as a result.

Erlend Oag, a former Club XV cap himself, is in on the wing for Hawks.

Shaun Fairbairn moves forward from the back-row to the second-row for Hawick, with young Billy Mcneil coming in at No 7.

The Greens are third in the table and are taking on Edinburgh Accies at Mansfield

Park looking to record their seventh league win on the spin.

Accies – who are eighth, just four points above bottom side Musselburgh – have Max Love and Richard Mill back to start at nine and 10 while skipper Jamie Sole shifts across the back-row to No 8.

Aberdeen Grammar are away to GHA today. When they met in October Grammar won an amazing game 57-47.

For the Braidholm clash, seventh-placed GHA have Andrewhughesbackatcentre so Cameron King moves inside to stand-off.

Sixth placed Jed-forest are at Musselburgh.

With regular captain Michael Maltman unavailable, scrum-half Danny Owenson will lead the home side in East Lothian.

William Fleming is also back in the second-row for them while Jed will be keen to build on last week’s triumph.
