in a tragi-comic way, but it looks like these much needed boats are as far way from delivery as ever. There must surely be some suitable stopgap vessels available from somewhere?

Scientists warned that Scotland must prepare for hot weather extremes in the coming decade.

OK, let’s build a few more reservoirs to hold back the winter rain for the summer and the lawns. No problem, just forward planning needed.

Gavin Beattie What [rubbish]. In 2019 Scotland recorded its second wettest summer ever, and after June the rest of the summer was Baltic.

Exactly. Last year’s “heat wave” lasted just a few days, unlike that of 1976 which went on for weeks.

Reality demands to be heard Man-made climate change is a figment of many people’s imaginations. It is making a lot of money for a lot of people.

Iana58 The pending cold phase of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) and falling solar activity will take care of hot summers for at least the next 30 years. The heat wave of 2018 was caused by a blocking high due to unusually cold waters in the west Atlantic, perhaps an early harbinger of the AMO cold phase.

Douglas Brodie “Projections”, “suggest” and “likelihood” – in other words, predictions that are worthless. We were supposed to be basking in Mediterranean temperatures by now as was suggested some years ago. Instead Scotland’s climate has not changed one iota in decades.

Wee Scunner Scotland needs to prepare for all extreme weather events. Whilst the Scottish Government should be commended for trying to reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases, we need to put more effort into climate resilience. We need to ensure that society can continue to function after all extreme weather events. Walk around the streets and look at how many road drains are blocked. The street gutters are full of detritus, because they are not being cleaned; so all this material ends up down the drains.

Noggin the nog Bring it on I say, 2019 was bloody cold.

Ben Palmer The Earth has been heating up and cooling down since time began so I don’t think we have anything to worry about.

North Lanarkshire Council is to start charging people for off-street parking in seven of its town centres.

Can we expect all councillors and MSPS across Scotland to take public transport, refuse a diesel taxi, or any taxi, sell their cars and walk or cycle to work and go shopping? The mantra of “do as I say and not as I do” is alive and well in Snp/green Scotland.

Grumpy Cue for an excessive increase in side street parking in Seafar and North Carbrain following this political sanctioning of the ultimate “demise” of Cumbernauld and other town centres!

The death was announced of movie legend Kirk Douglas at the age of 103.

He died a model that few of today’s actors live up to.

Andrew Macaulay I’m Spartacus! Absolute legend. Sadly missed already. RIP Kirk.

No... I’m Spartacus. A true legend.

F Caannall No. I’m Spartacus. So many varied films giving much pleasure to filmgoers.
