Stevenson denies Raith chance to extend lead

-

One-time Raith Rovers goalkeeper Ryan Stevenson denied the League 1 title-challengers a win by netting a penalty for Stranraer in a 1-1 draw at blustery Stair Park.

The table-topping Fifers took the lead on 36 minutes when John Baird slotted in with the equaliser coming on 54 minutes.

Michael Miller fouled Jordan Allan and former Hearts star Stevenson, who donned the gloves for Rovers in a 2017 Championship game against Ayr, slammed home from 12 yards.

Airdrie failed to make any inroads into Raith’s sevenpoint advantage, however, as they played out a goalless draw at Dumbarton, with the Diamonds left aggrieved at not being awarded a first-half penalty.

The Peterhead and Forfar match at Balmoor lasted 32 minutes before being abandoned, with Blue Toon manager Jim Mcinally disappointed that the game started. He said: “We notified the SPFL on Friday of the weather forecast but there was no instruction to cancel the game.”

Elgin City gave their playoff hopes a boost when they thumped League 2 leaders

Cove Rangers 3-0 at Borough Briggs.

Kane Hester slotted in after two minutes, with Stephen Bronsky nodding in before Rory Macewan made it three early into the restart.

Edinburgh City took advantage of Cove’s stumble by defeating visitors Annan 3-0, with Danny Handling scoring twice before Liam Henderson netted.

Cowdenbeath drew 2-2 at Stenhousemuir where Greig Spence put the Warriors ahead with Jordan Allan and Graham Taylor turning things around. David Hopkirk restored parity after Fraser Mullen had a penalty saved.

Kieran Moore scored either side of Peter Grant’s 30-yarder as Queen’s Park recovered from going behind to a Dylan Bikey header to win 3-1 at Stirling Albion. Brechin led at Albion Rovers through Kieran Inglis’ penalty but Albion won 4-1 thanks to Declan Byrne’s double and Daniel Scally and Scott Roberts goals.
