Forster’s winner at Palmerston reignites Dundee’s pursuit of the play-offs

- By CRAIG STEWART

Dundee pushed themselves back into a play-off place thanks to a 1-0 win at Queen of the South which was secured by defender Jordon Forster’s first goal for the club.

In the opening half Andrew Nelson had gone close for the Dark Blues with a header with thedoonhamers’callumsemple nodding a chance wide.

The game’s decisive moment came with 18 minutes left when Ross Stewart pushed out Christophe Berra’s header and Forster, pictured, was on hand to turn the ball in.

Dundee manager James Mcpake said: “This is a game we would have lost in the first half of the season. So, while it was not pretty it is hugely important.”

One of the reasons that the Dens Park side were able to move up two places was that the Arbroath and Ayr contest was abandoned at half-time with the score at 1-1.

The Honest Men had opened the scoring at blustery Gayfield when Aaron Drinan drilled in a low shot on 16 minutes with the hosts equalising 12 minutes later when Colin Hamilton’s corner was blown into the net.

At half-time referee Steven Kirkland decided that the wind was going to be the only winner and opted to bring the game to a halt. Home boss Dick Campbell was happy with the decision however, visiting manager Mark Kerr was disappointed as his side where due to have the elements at their back in the second 45 minutes.

Morton blew the chance to push themselves towards midtable respectability after losing two late goals in a 4-4 draw with visitors Alloa.

Kyle Jacobs headed the Greenock men in front, however the Wasps led when Alan Trouten and then Kevin Cawley found the net.

The game had turned around again by half-time thanks to

Luca Colville’s diving header and then well-struck efforts from Reagan Tumilty and Bob Mchugh that put Morton 4-2 ahead.

The three points were in Morton’s hands until Kevin O’hara fired in with five minutes left and two minutes into added on time Robbie Deas sent a header bouncing into the net.

The game between Partick Thistle and Dunfermline was postponed.
