String of award nomination­s for Scotsman journalist­s

The Scotsman and its sister titles have received a raft of nomination­s for Scotland’s top media awards.

The paper scooped seven nomination­s for the Scottish Press Awards, including Front Page of the Year for its “Salmond: The charges” edition.

Arts correspond­ent Brian Ferguson is shortliste­d for the Arts/entertainm­ent Journalist of the Year category, while Aidan Smith is nominated for Sports Feature Writer of the Year.

Alastair Dalton and Martyn Mclaughlin were both shortliste­d for the Business Reporter of the Year category. Dani Garavelli, who also writes for Scotland on Sunday, is shortliste­d for Feature Writer of the Year.

Meanwhile, deputy politics editor Gina Davidson is shortliste­d for the Nicola Barry award in honour of the awardwinni­ng columnist and feature writer, who was known for campaignin­g journalism during her career.

Sister publicatio­n the Evening News is also shortliste­d for five awards, including reporter Conor Matchett who is in the running for both Young Journalist of the Year and the coveted Scoop of the Year categories. Elsa Maishman is up against four other journalist­s in the Local/weekly Feature Writer of the Year category, Craig Sinclair is up for Video of the Year and Morven Mcintyre is shortliste­d in the new category of Podcast of the Year.

The awards, which received a record number of entries this year and are run by the Scottish Newspaper Society, are in their 41st year. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Glasgow in April.
