World Health Organisation spokesperson Margaret Harris has questioned the UK’S approach to “herd immunity” against Covid-19.
@Realpaulmartin tweeted: “No shortage of highly qualified experts who are criticising the UK goverment response to Covid-19. Asking why certain things have and haven’t been done. Even though these questions were answered and asked.”
But @mfreema96116971 reckoned: “Boris’s plan to ‘fix’ the NHS. Targeting pensioners!”
@Euflagmafia chuckled: “Eton College is closed. Advice to other schools, stay open and get infected, you commoners!”
@Stefsimanowitz queried: “Yesterday, according to figures, Britain had the 16th highest number of coronavirus cases in the world. Today, the UK leapt into 10th. Is this how herd immunity works?”
@Covidwhistle agreed:
“If you show symptoms go to the hospital, otherwise please stay at home and avoid all contact. Boris and his advisors are not prioritising the health of the nation. Herd immunity will not be feasible if the virus mutates.”
@mrsveganfood fretted: “In all my nearly 50 years on this Earth I’ve never felt more like we are experiments in a Sims game.”
#VIRGINATLANTIC
Boris Johnson will be told by Virgin Atlantic bosses that the cash-strapped airline industry needs government aid worth up to £7.5 billion, according to media reports.
@Strongerstabler commented: “Richard Branson is begging Boris Johnson for £7.5bn to keep his Virgin Atlantic airline afloat. He doesn’t pay taxes in the UK. Branson shouldn’t receive any more government support!”
@abebourne53 thought: “An opportunity to take into public ownership (at bargain prices) some of the companies that will fail. ”
@rogsilson felt: “Perhaps the support should be in the form of a refund of UK tax he has paid in the last 20 years. I suspect that would maybe get him a round of drinks at the pub, but may not keep an airline afloat.”
@weekildarebhoy opined: “You know he’ll get it, just like when the government bailed out the bankers.”
But @Tikijon10 came to the rescue: “It’s not about his personal wealth though, is it? It’s about supporting the thousands that work in that industry. Too simplistic.”
