A Glasgow recruitment startup has scooped a three-year deal worth more than £3 million as it enters its second year of trading.

Hyreus, which marked its first anniversary at the end of February, has been awarded the bumper contract by a key client working in the construction and civil engineering industry following a sixmonth trial.

The recruiter anticipates the new business win will lead to revenues of more than £3m by 2023.

This comes as Hyreus unveiled revenues of just over £2.1m during its inaugural year of trading, having placedhundredsofcandidates throughout Scotland, England and Wales. The business now expects to expand its reach into Ireland on the back of its latest contract win.

Account manager Steven Kane, who heads up the Glasgow office, said: “We were given an opportunity to come in and try and prove ourselves, to see if we could change things for the client and the candidates which I think we’ve successfully done.

“There’s no doubt our first year has been a success.”

Hyreus currently places contractors across a variety of construction and maintenance sectors such as industrial, power and renewables, residential, retail, local authority and infrastructure.

The company recently moved to a new office at Merlin House in Hillington, doubling the size of its previous base, in order to accommodate its growing five-strong team and prepare for further expansion.

The team has a collective total of more than 40 years recruitment experience and is keen to add more consultants.

Kane said he expects high growth levels to continue but is taking a sustainable approach. He said: “The last thing you want to do in this business is over-promise and under-deliver, so we’re taking a measured attitude to growth. We want to do it right and look after people on both sides of the fence, the clients and candidates.

“Already in the first few months of the year, there have been two new projects which started in the past couple of weeks and there’s a massive project coming up in the central Scotland area. We’re growing in different directions and looking to work more with new clients, too.”

Kane, who spent more than 20 years as a joiner before moving into recruitment for the construction, oil and gas and engineering sectors, added that he has “built up a good database” of candidates from his on-site experience.
