The Scotsman

A message from the editor

- FRANK O’DONNELL, EDITOR

The past few weeks have been difficult for everyone: businesses, employees, the NHS and other emergency workers. And the signs are that this situation is not going to change any time soon.

The journalists at The Scotsman, the Edinburgh Evening News and Scotland on Sunday have been working around the clock to bring you the latest news on coronavirus with a local and Scottish angle. We know that there is a huge demand for information.

Online, almost two million stories a day are being read on our two websites. And newspaper sales are up.

More than ever before, the public want trusted, relevant, local information to help them make decisions about their lives. And they also want positive news about local communities working together to overcome these difficulties. But not everyone is online.

And now, a huge number of people who are stuck at home are unable to access a printed copy of their newspaper.

Many of these people, like my own mum, are older and at risk of increasing isolation and disconnection.

I have one thing to ask of you today.

When you are thinking about whether loved ones have all the food and household essentials they require, think too whether they would appreciate their favourite newspaper.

Buy a copy, support your local newsagent, and pop it through their letterbox. Use gloves, of course.

Or sign them up for free home delivery to ensure they keep updated with the latest news and information.

Home delivery is free for six weeks using the website delivermynewspaper.co.uk

This simple act will help to ensure that those who are stuck at home will have access to the latest news, features and puzzles to stay informed and help pass the time.

Thank you for your support as we all work together to overcome this crisis.
