- By SCOTT REID

An Aberdeen-headquartered company that develops technologies for water and waste remediation is eyeing further global growth after launching a Middle East arm.

SEM has partnered with Muscat-based Hema Energy to work with clients across several sectors including agriculture, marine and oil and gas. An Omani company, Hema Energy provides “valueadding technologies and services” to the upstream petroleum industry.

The new venture, SEM Mena, will be based around a shared business structure between the two businesses, “reflecting their joint commitment to the energy market”.

SEM chief executive John

Jones said: “This is an exceptionally exciting time for us at SEM, as we spread our global reach and bring our environmentally conscious technologies to new markets.

“Oman, in particular, is a rapidly developing market which offers a host of new opportunities for the technologies we have driven from prototype to commercialisation.” Hema Group managing director Eyhab Al Haj added: “Hema Energy has always been passionate in serving its clients’ needs by bringing in innovative technologies from all over the world and this move to collaborate with SEM not only aids the clients in resolving their issues, but also brings in the concept of going green to the oil and gas industry.

“SEM has been successful in executing projects in other geographical locations to reduce waste and Hema strongly believes that this joint venture is a major value-add to the Oman economy, especially with an increase of involvement of local companies.”

Currently five members of SEM staff are based in Hema’s Oman office, with plans in the pipeline to recruit additional personnel locally.
