Lanarkshire-based Edge Testing unwraps new development
Bellshill-based software testing firm Edge Testing has launched a performance engineering service it says can cut business risk and generate major cost savings, “finessing system design and capacity”.
The business, which was established in 2007 and is led by MD Sharon Hamilton, said selecting an inefficient language or development platform can build in overheads meaning a company pays too much for cloud services every day a system is in use.
Edge’s service advises on how to select the best technologies and configure them to design built-in efficiency and effectiveness, and uses a mix of machine learning and pattern recognition. “The algorithm behind the service is the result of years of research and practice, and provides the ability to accurately forecast capacity requirements in a wide range of environments and settings. This can yield significant resource savings in larger deployments… and improve efficiency across the board.”
Dan Martland, head of technical testing at Edge, said the service was first developed for internal use, “but the results were so startlingly strong that we began limited customer beta trials”. In one case it saved a client £7.7 million, he added. “We believe that performance engineering will become a standard part of testing functions in the future.”
The firm was earlier this year granted customised award certification by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
