Controvers­ial plans to suspend jury trials in Scotland during the coronaviru­s outbreak have been dropped by the Scottish Government after a backlash.

So how are we going to protect jurors from the virus? Are we going to have them dotted about the court room to maintain social distancing? How are we doing to get jurors if they’re self isolating?

Thomas Duffy If this means defendants held on remand for serious crimes have to do more time on remand then that’s got to be better than scrapping a fundamenta­l part of our legal system, ie the right to a fair trial. With all the technology we have there’s got to be a way to hold juried trials without everyone being packed into a court room.
