Online school launches recruitment drive
An Edinburgh-based e-learning business is boosting its headcount as student numbers soar following the temporary closure of schools across the world.
My Online Schooling, which runs more than 300 classes in 40 countries for children aged eight to 18, is recruiting ten additional teachers after a sharp rise in enrolments during the coronavirus lockdown.
Founded by Tom Crombie in 2017, My Online Schooling uses virtual classroom technology to host live classes led by fully qualified teachers. It has grown to employ 65 staff and teach 500 pupils, with numbers expected to rapidly increase in the coming weeks.
The company also runs free daily classes via Facebook Live and posts home schooling resources online for parents to download. It has pledged free online schooling for key workers’ children who might not be able to attend school and will donate a percentage of revenues from enrolments due to school closures to UK food banks.
Crombie, who
recently opened a second office in Australia to meet demand from East Asia, Australia and the Pacific region, is calling for freelance teachers and support teachers who might be out of work to get in touch.
He said: “We have been inundated with inquiries from families looking for online support since the government announced school closures.
“We really want to be able to help families out during these uncertain times which is why we’ve set up new discounted short-term, flexible options which will hopefully take a bit of pressure off for them.”
