This is just one industry that will suffer hugely, just like tour coach companies, open-top buses for city sightseeing, gyms, cinemas and theatres, to mention a few. At the end of the day something has to give, humans aren’t designed to live the way we currently are, and social distancing simply doesn’t work in a lot of scenarios. So what is the answer, remain in lockdown until a vaccine has been developed or try to get back to normal, because people will start to do this and soon forget?

Darren Wilson

The industry is absolutely goosed! The only thing outside their restaurants will not be a menu but a For Sale or For Lease sign! Massive unemployment and no one quite understands how bad things are going to get.

Steve Keogh

Of course we all understand that there will be massive unemployment. We know it’s coming, what we need is some outside-the-box thinking for a brave new world. We can’t go back, so we must go forward.

Ray Wallace

This is what happens when you set up your whole city to cater for the tourists... hotels, Airbnb’s, restaurants, cafes bars... put all our eggs in the tourism basket. Oh yeah, and the students... shouldn’t have forgotten about the locals, there’s now’t for them now.

Frank Brown

It’s gonna be like the Great Depression in America or maybe worse. This Covid-19 will get the blame for everything, but Edinburgh, Scotland and the UK are not unique. Most countries in the world are in the same boat.

Peter Anderson I’m loving the places that are doing “cook at home” packs. Would be good if some of them could adapt. I’m not as keen on takeaway food but love the packs I can make with my family.

Louise Wilson It was an overpriced, greedy market. Maybe if they put egos aside and lower some costs, they can attract customers back.

Jay Jay It’s time to get things moving again. Herd immunity is the only way, a vaccine won’t be ready for at least another six months and by then like any pandemic the virus will mutate and the real second wave will come. No point keeping locked up, let’s enjoy ourselves before the real pandemic shows itself.

David Chisholm So selfish to put profit before lives. Who would want to spend a fortune on a meal and not be safe?

Paul Krol

C’mon folks, get your thinking caps on. There must be a way to find alternatives. Something else, over and above home deliveries.

Davina Stewart One thing Nicola Sturgeon could do is use the new “100% accurate Covid-19 antibody test approved for use in UK”. Hundreds of thousands have had the virus and could get tested and given papers to show temporary immunity and allow them to go back to normality. We could send a 100,000 or more Scots straight back to normality if they just test. Why not? Otherwise, we are waiting for 12 months maybe for a vaccine. This isn’t going away so what is the plan, if not this?

Robert J Williamson Possibility of a lot of dead customers if they don’t. There’s no vaccine for this virus.

Paul Clarkson Come on Nicola, let’s get back on track and open up! Save our jobs!

Darren Chatt

Down to the Scottish Government to put a plan in place instead of the blanket “stay at home” message, which a lot of people aren’t adhering to anyhow. With only 10 in ICU we have protected the NHS. So over to you Nicola Sturgeon!

Tom Young

She is dragging her high heels and will be responsible for many more job losses.

Stevie Boggie

Would they rather have a tidal wave of deaths?

Margaret Aikman

Do they honestly think there won’t be social distancing?
