NTS crisis

-

The National Trust for Scotland is facing imminent collapse due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s not just NTS who have got these problems as there are many smaller charities who protect and safeguard properties and their contents that play a significant part in our cultural history and heritage, one example being Sir Walter Scott’s home of Abbotsford. NTS have very little to offer in the Borders so folk looking to donate to such charities would do well to support more local charities.

Paul Holywood

Hear, hear.

Dave Greenhill Surely this is where the National Lottery should step in with support for these charities?

Gini Tohs We could buy a quarter of a rusting ferry hull for the amount of money they need.

With staycations likely what better way to educate Scots about their own history? Of course, education is not an SNP strongpoint.

Ken Currie

This is why the grounds (not buildings) should be opened immediately; at least that would provide some income once we are allowed out.

Lynyrd Scunnered

What they need is an SNP sychophant in charge.

Old Man of Hoy

In which case the NTS as we know it will disappear. The land will be part of ‘land reform’. The financial bequests and trusts will be merged and absorbed into government finances in the ‘interests of equality’. The history will be reinterpreted to erase the elite, the brilliant, and those who contributed to taking British culture throughout the world.

Wilma Prentice Sadly, many resigning their memberships are not doing so due to lack of access to NTS properties, they are doing so because they are very unimpressed about NTS management and strategy.

Ian Aspinall

Unbelievable. What world does he inhabit?

Peter Richardson

I take it going by the comments on here I’m the only one who watches the daily briefings. Both are on BBC1

Pauline Downie

So you will all be paying your BBC TV licence then, and not be speaking out against it?

Michael Carter

I wouldn’t watch BBC propaganda TV at all, except I love their gardening programmes Beechgrove, Gardeners World and the Chelsea Flower Show programmes last week. With the 2020 Show cancelled they were excellent.

Douglas Martin

You’re having a laugh. The BBC is run by a bunch of luvvies and lefties with no interest in normal people. Abolish the license fee now.

Defrocked Reverend

Movies from 40 years ago, constant repeats, why do I have to pay a licence for this garbage? The constant repeat news churned out all day. Why not use Beeb 2 for news and put something entertaining on Beeb 1?

Thank the Lord I’ve got cable, at least I have the choice to watch some other content. You’re a pale imitation of the channel you used to be.

Ross Hale I think you could probably say the same for any media, radio, TV just now.

Jim Keddie Scottish nationalist separatists feeding on their hatred of all things British. You do not speak for the majority

Grumpy

Never watch it due to bias.

Violet Rankine

The only thing that’s turned with the BBC is my stomach
