#RACEPROTESTS

The protests that have spread across US cities after the death of Africanamerican George Floyd in Minneapolis have now started in other countries. People in Berlin, London and Toronto took to the streets to show support.

@Mike60319099 tweeted: “A brave young man didn’t hesitate to fight back white cops. Well done.”

And from South America

@Andersonfisico commented: “I really wish my country had half of consciousness that you have, but in Brazil, the death of poor and black people is trivialised.”

@castallavillas reckoned: “Most people around the world hate Trump and what he stands for.”

@Tommer82 asked: “Does the rest of Europe (world?) mostly see Trump and the modern day GOP as early days Hitler and Nazism? I genuinely want to know.”

@Fawful81 replied: “I’m German, and I teach English to German high school students here in Germany. I can safely tell you that we see the parallels between what’s sadly going on in the US and our own shameful history during the Third Reich, so yes – any sensible foreigner does.” @Margare45281906 concluded: “This is not a American problem, it’s a global problem.”

#MICHAELANGELIS

Thomas the Tank Engine voiceover star Michael Angelis died at the weekend. He was also known for his roles in comedies The Liver Birds and Luv and the TV drama series Boys from the Blackstuff.

@donnawatmore9 mourned: “So sad he went, he was so funny and so great as an actor.”

@Creatorfm agreed: “I’m genuinely heartbroken. Thomas the Train was a big part of my childhood. Rest in peace, legend.”

@Janjamin_ reminisced: “Me name’s Lucien... I breed rabbits.”

@tomritchiemcfc contributed: “His finest moment was in Boys from the Blackstuff. His scene with Julie Walters was exceptional. Far greater use should have been made of his talents. RIP.”

@Jjmachine24: “Man, this hits me hard, loved this show and watched it all the time as a kid, RIP Michael Angelis. Thanks for making my childhood a lot more enjoyable!”

@versacecaesar added: “2020 just stays sucking.”
