Close Brothers bolsters capital office with investment director

Barr joins CBAM from Brooks Macdonald, where he spent seven years as an investment manager and director. Before this he worked in the Channel Islands for four years for Ernst & Young. While at Brooks Macdonald, Barr looked after private client and charity funds. Close said its Edinburgh office has gone from strength to strength since it launched in-office bespoke investment management capability. This announcement follows a succession of senior hires since 2019, with four managing directors joining the Edinburgh team. CBAM now employs 110 people in Scotland. Martin Andrew, chief executive of CBAM, said: “In these extraordinary times, Michael is an excellent addition to our Edinburgh office. His considerable expertise in managing both charity funds and handling private clients’ needs will be a fantastic asset as we continue to enhance our high net worth proposition in Scotland.”

Tahir
Bashir has joined the firm from the Ascent Performance Group, bringing with him 20 years of frontline experience in property and volume debt recovery. The 45-year-old is a respected figure in the sector, having worked extensively with clients such as the Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander and Lloyds Banking Group during his career. He will be based at the firm’s Newcastle office, where he will oversee the firm’s rapidly expanding property and litigation team in the north-east of England.

Riddle brings more than 17 years’ experience to the role, having previously held senior positions with major seafood producers including UK sales manager at Scottish Sea Farms, and commercial director at Aquascot. In her work with Northern Light Consulting – which will continue alongside the new role with SAIC – Riddle has provided strategic support for organisations such as the Scottish Association of Marine Science.
