The country home where Prince Charles courted Lady Diana and conducted his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles is on sale for £3.75 million.

Bolehyde Manor was previously home to the now Duchess of Cornwall while she was married to her first husband Andrew Parker Bowles.

Prince Charles was said to be a frequent visitor during, and even before, the deterioration of his first marriage to Lady Diana Spencer.

But it was also a favoured destination when he was wooing the princess some years earlier.

The sprawling, eight-bed property is now being sold by its current owners, Simon Cairns and his wife Amanda – Earl and Countess of Cairns – who bought the estate for £600,000 in 1986.

It boasts large gardens set in over 70 acres with a swimming pool and a tennis court, as well as an extensive number of outbuildings and land for farming.

The house has numerous royal connections, with the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton’s parents rumoured to have shown an interest in 2011.

The building is located near Chippenham, Wiltshire – just 15 miles from Prince Charles’ estate at Highgrove, near Tetbury, Gloucestershire.

In 1980, the duchy of Cornwall had purchased Highgrove House as a country home for the Prince of Wales. The purchase of the estate had been an investment in his future, as Charles wanted nothing more than a “normal family life”, according to Lady Mountbatten.

Historical records show evidence of work on the Bolehyde Manor site as far back as 700 years ago, although the historic building itself was built closer to its existing form in the 17th century.

It was given grade two listing in 1952, with Camilla and husband Andrew moving in two decades later.

Prince Charles and Camilla had been in a relationship prior to him meeting and marrying Diana in 1981 and were known to be friends. It has been widely acknowledge they then resumed their romance before he tied the knot with the soon-to-be Princess of Wales – and while Camilla was also married.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana formally divorced in 1996 and she was tragically killed in a car crash just a year later. He and Camilla then married in 2005.

Bole hyde manor is being sold by estate agents Savills. Agent Lindsay Cuthill said: “Bolehyde Manor is an enchanting house with stunning gardens.”
