Ayr many years ago: “We know you are a visitor to our area, but you will find car parking areas in X Y and Z.”

Florance Lonie Parking should be free as people will want to use their cars instead of Covid-19 buses to begin with, until we have a vaccine. So as long as they are not stupidly parked at bus stops or corners etc, leave well alone for a couple of years.

John Jordan It’s been all over Facebook and Twitter about parking fines while car parks etc are shut being a nonsense, and then when the council do something like this they get berated anyway! I’m no fan of Edinburgh Council most of the time, but at the current time this makes perfect sense.

Euan Anson Just to give drivers a break like walkers/joggers and cyclists, I guess. Why do people always have to be negative? Why not be happy someone has been given a bit of a break? It won’t last long.

Yes, at the time when humankind is going through a bad pandemic, this is a very good gesture by Edinburgh Council. People are worried for their loved ones and financial issues, whether in jobs or business, and the whole environment is not very positive. If Edinburgh Council is showing a helping hand it should be appreciated, but not misused.

They feel entitled to everything and want everything for nothing from the nanny state. That said, there are so many really nice people out there who will take on board this message and be thankful for a message instead of a fine.

The city centre is getting busier, so parking on yellow lines and bus stops should be ticketed, not just a daft note
