#BADEN-POWELL

The statue of Scout founder Lord Robert Baden-powell is to be temporarily removed from Poole in Dorset following criticism from campaigners accusing him of racism and homophobia.

Angry @Riadara__ tweeted: “BLM is a scam, and it’s ruining Britain.”

@Iwthedarkprince replied: “No it ain’t and no it ain’t.”

@Beaumontdmd felt: “You think this is making this country better? Of course it isn’t! This is brainwashing. It appears everybody has to think the same, behave the same, and say the same.”

@Pratingcoxcomb contributed: “There was suspicion over his sexuality, he was supposed to be a closeted homosexual. In these ‘woke’ times you would think he would have an army of defenders. I was a Boy Scout for five years and it was a great foundation for the life that lay ahead of me. No one is perfect.

@COYSRACH reasoned: “I think it’s the ‘Hitler’ stuff people object to, not a club for boys.”

@Angelsexbomb felt: “The extreme Left is making their next move on the British people, its history and its culture. George Orwell: ‘The most effective way to destroy a people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history’.” @Arghhhhhuk concluded: “I’d bet more schools have had paedophiles than the Scouts, so let’s close all schools too. The Scout movement as a whole does incredible good.”

# GEORGEALAGIAH

BBC newsreader George Alagiah, 64, has revealed that his bowel cancer has spread to his lungs. However, he added that his condition is not at a “chronic” or “terminal” stage.”

@sima_kotecha tweeted: “One of the nicest men in television – we’re always with you, George.”

@Hrawli was reassuring: “That sort of day when you read or hear news about someone you don’t even know and feel total anguish for them. Don’t give up hope George, many have fought it at this stage and won.”

@Dudsey_ agreed: “Sad to read about George Alagiah’s ongoing health problems, one of my favourite news anchormen men and a consummate pro.”

@Mrtonygordon paid tribute: “A real broadcasting legend and one of the allround good guys.”

@Artybagger summed up: “OK. I bloody adore George Alagiah.”
